A vast flat-topped mountain rising from open country, its wide level summit and forested slopes under a luminous sky, soft mist pooling at its feet.

The World

Zemiya

A parallel world, danced into being by a goddess, living now in an age that has forgotten how to say so.

What is Zemiya

A world as real as this one, running alongside it.

Zemiya is a parallel world, as real as this one, running alongside ours the whole way through history. A goddess called it into being by dancing at the heart of world. Everyone began there together, on the same morning, in the same place. Humans, elves, fairies, merfolk, and stranger things besides, in a world where magic and the divine were part of an ordinary day.

I came ashore when it was new, and I have walked it ever since, writing down what the people living inside it told me. What follows are pieces of that record, shared as they are ready to be received.

A sweeping view over a rich green country of rolling hills, winding rivers and scattered woods, stretching to a misted horizon.
An open book with a pressed violet, a silver seal, a quill and dried lavender on a dark desk.

The Fourth Age

“We will start with the fourth age.”

Zemiya's history runs across many ages, and the record runs the whole length of them. A record this long arrives in pieces, and you will come to each one as the stories reach it.

A wide inhabited river valley at dusk: a village of steep-roofed houses, a stone bridge, terraced farmland and woods, blue mountains beyond.

IV

Era of Suppression and Disconnect

1492 – 1912 D.E. (the Dawn Era, Zemiya's own calendar)

By this Age the separation between peoples has hardened into institutions. Humans dominate by sheer numbers. Organized religion has become the instrument of suppression, and magic survives out of sight: hidden academies, secret societies, underground networks, and families who keep one forbidden thing in a locked drawer. How dangerous that is depends on where you stand, and a few corners of the world still let the old ways breathe.

This is the age of A Curse of Roses and Scales, set in the 1700s, where Rosalinde walks into a cursed palace of her own free will, and Dragana sets out to earn a place among the fairies who only accept those deemed worthy into their ranks.

“There are Ages before this one and Ages after it. I have seen all of them. You will have them as the telling reaches them.”

The Record holds the pieces I have chosen to release first: myths, origin tales, documents from inside the world, and prose taken down from the people who still told it.
