A lamplit archive at night: shelves of books, an arched window wound with violet flowers, a citadel lost in fog beyond.

Pieces of the record

The Record

Myths, origin tales, lived experience, and the wisdom that was never lost.

The record

More survived than you would guess.

I take my charge as wisdom keeper seriously. I untangle that which has been wrapped in myth, buried in religion, hidden inside the metaphors of cultures who kept the story and lost the name at the heart of it. The Record is my reconstruction: the truths I carried out, the memories I picked up on the road, the stories I took down from the people who still told them.

It grows in pieces, and it always will. A record this long arrives a little at a time.

A sheet of pale vellum on dark cloth beside a silver seal, violet wax and a quill, a candle and stone wall beyond.

On returning

On why I have come back now.

I left this world in the years your histories call the beginning of the dark ages. I came ashore on Zemiya when it was new, and I saw and set down as much as I could. I watched civilizations rise and fall. I watched them forget themselves the way fog comes down over a valley at evening: slow, total, without malice.

I came back because the record is ready to arrive and because the people living inside a story deserve some sight of it from outside.

From the Mists is where I begin. A letter at a time: myth, lore, story, and testimony. A record like this one arrives a little at a time. And it arrives.

Welcome. I have been waiting a long time to start.

More arriving

The Record grows with each issue of From the Mists. New pieces go to subscribers first: myths, testimonies, origin stories, and documents from inside the world. Subscribe to receive them as they arrive.
